10/22/15 Meeting Recap

This week's meeting was dedicated to planning the rest of our semester.

Dr. Aaron Moore has been confirmed as our guest speaker for the Internship Workshop on Thursday, November 5, at 11:30 a.m. Pizza will be provided at this event.

We will be touring JFK Communications on Friday, October 30. The firm is located in Skillman, NJ, which is approximately 30 minutes away from Rider. The firm will provide a pizza lunch, and all members are welcome to join.

The Society is hosting a mentor program for all members. Through this program, members will be paired up with a professional mentor from the public relations industry. Mentors will help students with their career paths and answer all question about the industry.

PRSA NJ is hosting a Young Pros Fall Mixer, which will take place on Thursday, November 12, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will take place at The Office, located at 3 South Street on The Green, Morristown, NJ 07960.

On Friday, November 13, we will be touring the Boys’ & Girls’ Club of America at their Mercer County location. The Boys’ and Girls’ Club would like us to help them with some public relations campaigns. All members are welcome to join us on the tour.

We will be hosting a Sports Communication Workshop on Thursday, November 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Fine Arts, Room 280. We will announce the guest speaker for this event at a later date.

At the end of the meeting, members split up into committees and began networking. All members are encouraged to sign-up for a committee. The Society has five committees:

1) Social Media (blogging, Twitter, Instagram)

2) Recruitment & Publicity (flyers, recruitment, contact classes, put on university calendar)

3) Special Events: Trips (agency tours, regional conferences)

4) Special Events: Speakers & Programs (American Heart Association guest, internship/resume workshop, movie night)

5) Professional Services: Offering PR skills to nonprofits (Boys and Girls club)
